About Calcined Petroleum Coke
  1. Product & Process

Calcined Petroleum Coke (CPC) is obtained by Calcining Raw Petroleum Coke (RPC) at temperature around 1200-1350 °C. RPC is the end product of the Oil refining process and derived from the fractional distillation of Petroleum Crude in delayed Cokers. CPC is mainly used in the Aluminum Smelter.

Calcination is a high temperature process in rotary kiln for transforming the physical properties of raw petroleum coke. Raw Petroleum Coke (RPC) is fed into a rotary kiln in controlled ratios. During the heat transfer process, the material comes across 3 reactive zones where it drying, removal of residual hydrocarbons and then to densification zones to improve critical physical properties e.g. electrical conductivity, real density & oxidation characteristics. The exhaust gases leaving the cooler and kiln are vented into an incinerator. The incinerator exhaust gases are subsequently sent to a Gas treatment system through boiler. The Gas treatment system is designed to maintain the emission standards as given by K-EPA after passing through this system and bag house.

Calcined Petroleum Coke (CPC) is a form of highly electrically conductive, dense Carbon with very low specific Electrical Resistance, and having fixed Carbon of approximately 99.5%.

CPC is used extensively as Anode in Alumina Smelters, and in the manufacturing of Graphite/ Graphite Electrodes, and Thermal Paste for Ferro Alloys & allied industries in Arc Furnaces. It is also used in various Steel Industries for - Melting of Steel, Recurburisation and for making Special Steels & Alloys.
